A Finnish-flagged 27m motor yacht Hooligan caught fire and sank on July 30 not far from Estonian capital, Tallinn. According to the local press, Postimees and Delfi, the ship with ten passengers on board caught fire near Naissaari just before 4 p.m. and sank around 18:20. All passengers were evacuated to a lifeboat and then to another ship. No harm done.The cause of the fire is currently unknown. At the moment, efforts are being made at the site of the sinking to prevent the spread of marine fuel into the sea.Hooligan (previously known as J & Li and Jaba) was launched by Italian shipyard Canados in 2008. The 27.45m yacht features exterior and interior design by Luiz de Basto Designs. Her naval architecture was made by Canados. She could accommodate up to eight guests and a crew of three. Boutique boat builder Soyaslan has just launched what is believed to be the world’s longest cold-molded catamaran. The 19.37m was designed and built by the specialist Turkish builder, with styling from Tumer Design Studio.Regardless of the material, the catamaran has ultra-modern lines. The shearline swoops from low stern up towards the heavily flared bows of the boat, which are themselves raked aft. The white coachroof seems to hover above a pool of black glazing, with a streamlined hard-top shading the flybridge.That such a complex design should have been built using the cold molding construction process. Cold molding is the method of building up a shape by forming sheets or planks of wood over a plug or frame. The individual wooden elements are glued together with high-performance epoxy and later sheathed in epoxy for protection and longevity.“In the final look, users cannot tell the difference between a cold-molded yacht and a GRP or metal one,” says Can Soyaslan, the founder. “In practice, the durability and longevity of the hull is without comparison. Wooden yachts can last well over a hundred years, while the vibration, sound and heat insulation are much better.”Weight for weight, there is little difference between cold-molding and GRP. But of course, wood is a sustainable material and there is also the sense of true craftsmanship that only comes from using wood. “It is not easy to explain, but you can notice/feel the difference of a wooden hull when you get onboard. It feels warmer and more honest,” says Soyaslan.She can accommodate eight guests across two large double cabins and two twins, and a further three berths for crew. Tumer Design has created an interior that feels modern and minimal, with a neutral palette of darker colors blended with colorful blue and orange patterned fabrics. The large electrically-controlled bathing platform aft carries the 3.5m tender.The CAT63 is powered by twin Yanmar 110hp engines, hooked up to big ZF saildrives, for an 8.5-knot cruising speed and over 10 knots full throttle. There are a huge 60kWh of lithium batteries aboard and no fewer than eight 430W solar panels.“Our whole team is very proud of this sleek, powerful catamaran,” says Soyaslan. “The yacht will bring her owner safely and comfortably across oceans and provide an excellent cruising platform.” Soyaslan was founded in 1992 by Turhan Soyaslan. The yacht builder has completed over 100 successful projects. Soyaslan’s shipyard in Tuzla, Turkey has the capacity to build three vessels at the same time, each with a length up to 40m. The project, born from the collaboration with Luca Dini and his company “Design & Architecture”, with the consultancy of Kurt Lehman and his “Yachts Moments”.Gentleman 33The fleet, named “Gentleman”, introduces TISG into the segment of serial production for yachts and superyachts, keeping its ultra-high-level positioning. The beach club, among the largest on yachts of similar size, opens directly on the sun deck via a large sliding glass door. The Gentleman's Yacht Picchiotti is also equipped with a tender that represents its exact miniature and is characterized by the same lines and finishes.Gentleman 33"We have chosen to develop an entire fleet, ranging from 24 to 55m in length to satisfy a wide segment of the market. It is a project in strong countertrend dedicated to those owners who want to stand out, but are also well acquainted with tradition and the concept of gentleman yachts,” declares Luca Dini.The keel of the first Gentleman Picchiotti, which will be already delivered in the summer of 2024, was laid on July 15th. Italian Luxury Projects unveiled a new series of catamarans called Spaceline. The line, which consists of three models – a 26.8m Spaceline 88, a 36.5m Spaceline 120 and a 45.7m Spaceline 150 – was developed in collaboration with UltimateCatamarans. Spaceline 150The 88 is ideal for day trips, but her 2,500 nautical mile range allows her to explore. She can accommodate eight guests across four cabins, and a crew of five to assist them. Spaceline 88The Spaceline 120 has a translating range with 3,500 nautical miles and can welcome 12 guests in five cabins in a standard layout version. Her features also include a spa, gym and large sundeck.Spaceline 150The biggest of the range, the 150 Spaceline has basically go-anywhere quality. The catamaran can accommodate 12 guests in five cabins, including a spacious 80 sq. m owner suite. She features a helicopter landing pad on the aft and plenty of space for out-door.
